This past Saturday, May 18th, Mālaʻai - The Culinary Garden at Waimea Middle School, hosted a send off celebration for the crew of Makaliʻi. Special guest, Maulili Dickson, shared about the upcoming Hanauna Ola voyage to Mokumanamana and the goal to provision the canoe with food grown and prepared locally. Waimea School, along with other schools and community entities around the island have been a huge support in supplying locally grown items for the voyage, but also in the making of canned, dried, stewed, and pickled foods that will be used for the voyage meals. This was a fantastic event where attendees not only learned about the voyage, but also were able to taste the food and collect some of the recipes that have been developed. We would like to thank all those who made this event possible, especially Amanda Rieux and Holly Sargeant-Green. Mahalo for your support, your hard work, and your aloha. We are indeed grateful.
