Dr Earl Bakken was, and is, our champion, the one who reminded us that we all have a role to play in the life and future of our waʻa and our voyaging legacies. While he may not have sailed as a crew member, he believed in our vision and offered generous support where and when it was needed most. Dr. Earl Bakken very recently returned to the realm of the ancestors. While we mourn his passing, we also know that we have a responsibility to hoʻomau in his honor.
